An introduction to practising Mindfulness and a celebration of the Winter Solstice, working with nature as an aid and stimulus to improve your health & well-being through a stronger connection to ourselves and the outdoors. Qualified and experienced tutors will take you through a range of activities aimed at giving you techniques which you can take forward to practise Mindfulness in your own time whilst outdoors. All this will take place against the backdrop of the beautiful National Trust’s Erddig estate with ancient woodland, parkland and footpath network.
This special session will include a focus around fire and fire-lighting skills. James will give some demonstrations of ancient fire-lighting techniques and learners will make their own fires with instruction. If you’ve ever found yourself staring into the flames of a fire you’ll understand why the campfire is often referred to as “Caveman’s TV.” Fire has a hypnotic quality which can really aid getting into a mindful head space. Lighting fires at the darkest time of the year is also an ancient custom and symbolises creating our positive intentions for the new year.
Lea will host a range of mindfulness exercises during the session including; walking, body scans, nature awareness and nature connection.

We will be warming up a pan of hot spiced apple cider (non-alcoholic) over the campfire and roasting some chestnuts too.
This session is suitable for anyone over the age of 18. The class runs for 3 hours, from 10am until 1pm and costs £27 per person.
ABOUT THE TUTORS
Lea Kendall is a qualified Integrative Counsellor and Life Coach. Lea is also a qualified Mindfulness in the Woods practitioner. As an Integrative Counsellor Lea takes the view that there is no single approach that can treat each client in all situations. She takes a holistic view of each individual, taking into account their emotional and mental well-being as well as their physical health.

I am passionate about finding ways to increase the self-esteem of people and encouraging motivation through positive experience, shared enthusiasm and a nurturing environment.”
James Kendall is an experienced Bushcraft Instructor, certified through the Institute for Outdoor Learning. He is a qualified Forest School Leader, Social Forester and experienced Woodland Skills Tutor.
