Autumn Adventures

If like us you love this time of year you’ll agree that there is something magical about the onset of Autumn.

For us it is the crisp seasonal winds, the muted light of the fading summer sunshine, the softly falling leaves and the smell and sound of the cosy crackling of a log fire.  In North East Wales we are so lucky to be surrounded by trees on every mountain, vale and valley with leaf colours ranging from pure gold to rich burgundy and everything in between.  We don’t know if it is just us, or is there nothing more satisfying than a walk through some crispy leaves whilst enjoying all the surrounding changes in colour? The hedgerows are bursting with blackberries and sloes and the trees are ripe with rosy hazelnuts but you will have to beat the squirrels to them. It’s the time for misty morning foraging for nature’s treasures such as the abundance of mushrooms this year.  Gardeners finally get to enjoy the fruits of their labours with a glut of fruit and veg for the kitchen table.

Despite this being a time where the nights draw in and we tend to naturally retreat into our homes it is also a time of year of celebrations too from the traditional harvest thanksgiving to the excitement of getting dressed up in spooky costumes and trick or treating in your neighbourhood, to the smell of gun powder from various firework displays across the country.  Halloween is an excellent time to fire up your spooky imaginations with a ghost walk or visit to some spooky buildings.
