Historic collections and archives of ancestral Myddelton family from over 400 years at Chirk Castle are sold to National Trust Cymru<\/strong><\/p>\n

Mae casgliadau oedd yn eiddo i’r teulu Myddelton ac sy’n cwmpasu dros bedwar can mlynedd o’u meddiannaeth yng Nghastell Y Waun yn Wrecsam, Gogledd Cymru, wedi cael eu prynu gan yr Ymddiriedolaeth Genedlaethol.<\/p>\n

Yn dilyn trafodaethau gyda’r teulu Myddelton, mae tua thri chant o eitemau o bwys hanesyddol wedi cael eu trosglwyddo i’r Ymddiriedolaeth Genedlaethol lle byddant yn cael eu cadw i\u2019r cyhoedd eu mwynhau am byth.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Mae llawer o’r eitemau sydd bellach ym meddiant yr Ymddiriedolaeth wedi bod ar fenthyg i’r elusen ers iddi brynu’r castell yn 1981. Dros fwy na phedwar degawd, mae’r Ymddiriedolaeth wedi bod wrthi’n casglu gwahanol wrthrychau, gweithiau celf a llyfrau sy’n gysylltiedig \u00e2 hanes Y Waun a hynny drwy eu prynu o arwerthiannau, trwy anrhegion a derbyn yn lle treth a thrwy werthiant preifat. Gyda’r pryniant diweddaraf hwn, mae’r Ymddiriedolaeth bellach wedi caffael rhai eitemau o\u2019r casgliad sydd o\u2019r arwyddoc\u00e2d hanesyddol mwyaf.<\/p>\n

Cwblhawyd Castell Y Waun, ym mhen uchaf dyffryn Ceiriog, tua 1310 ac roedd yn un o nifer o gaerau ar hyd y ffin rhwng Cymru a Lloegr a adeiladwyd i gynnal concwestau Edward I. Fe’i prynwyd gan Syr Thomas Myddelton, anturiaethwr masnachol o Sir Ddinbych yn wreiddiol, ac fe drawsnewidiodd o\u2019r \u00a0gaer yn gartref teuluol. [1] Trwy’r canrifoedd dilynol, bu gan deulu Myddelton gysylltiad di-dor \u00e2’r castell, ac adlewyrchir eu hanesion yn y cyfoeth o gasgliadau sydd ar \u00f4l.<\/p>\n

Mae rhan olaf y casgliad sydd bellach ym mherchnogaeth yr Ymddiriedolaeth yn cynnwys nifer o bortreadau o aelodau’r teulu Myddelton drwy\u2019r canrifoedd gan arlunwyr megis Michael Dahl, Syr Godfrey Kneller a Syr Peter Lely; tirluniau unigryw o ddechrau’r 18fed ganrif gan John Wootton a Peter Tillemans yn darlunio’r Waun ac a gomisiynwyd ar gyfer y castell; a dodrefn gan wneuthurwyr cabinet a chlustogwyr ffasiynol y 18fed ganrif, Ince & Mayhew, ynghyd \u00e2 dau ddrych gwydr pier ysblennydd.<\/p>\n

Mae\u2019r eitemau unigryw sydd wedi goroesi yn cynnwys bwrdd neuadd gweision o’r 17eg ganrif a wnaed o un darn di-dor o dderw, dros 5 metr (17 troedfedd) o hyd lle byddai hyd at 40 o staff yn ymgynnull i fwyta eu prydau.<\/p>\n

Mae casgliad mawr o ddogfennau yst\u00e2d, sy’n dyddio mor gynnar \u00e2 1250, yn rhoi cipolwg ar hanes y castell, ei drigolion a’i gymuned dros y canrifoedd. Yn ystod ei hanes, mae Castell y Waun wedi bodoli yn Lloegr ac yng Nghymru wrth i’r ffiniau gael eu newid yn dilyn brwydrau amdanynt. Mae papurau brenhinol saith o frenhinoedd\/brenhinesau gwahanol, yn dechrau gydag Elizabeth I, a dogfen sy’n dangos y darlun cyntaf y gwyddys amdano o Gastell y Waun yn 1563, ymhlith dwsinau o lawysgrifau sydd wedi cael eu trosglwyddo i’r Ymddiriedolaeth.<\/p>\n

Mae\u2019r ystod o ddeunydd sy’n ymwneud \u00e2 Rhyfel Cartref Lloegr o bwys arbennig ac yn cynnwys nodiadau, llythyrau a phoster yn ceisio ac yn enwi bradwyr (‘traytors’) gan gynnwys Syr Thomas Myddelton yr ail, a gefnogodd y Senedd ar ddechrau’r Rhyfel ond a drosglwyddodd ei deyrngarwch wedyn i Siarl II er mwyn adfer y frenhiniaeth.<\/p>\n

Eitem brin arall sydd wedi goroesi o’r 17eg ganrif yw het ledr ddu, a brynwyd ‘ar gyfer y Barwnig’ Thomas Myddelton (\u0175yr Thomas yr ail), ac mae’n debyg ei bod yn un o bedair het newydd a nodwyd yng nghyfrifon y castell ym 1668.<\/p>\n

Dywedodd Lhosa Daly, Cyfarwyddwr Cymru, Ymddiriedolaeth Genedlaethol Cymru<\/strong>: “Mae Castell Y Waun yn lle eiconig yn hanes Cymru, ac rydym wrth ein bodd ein bod wedi gallu sicrhau’r rhan olaf a\u2019r fwyaf arwyddocaol hon o’r casgliad sydd wedi bod ar fenthyg i ni gan y teulu Myddelton gydag eitemau sy\u2019n cwmpasu cannoedd o flynyddoedd. <\/em><\/p>\n

“Mae’r gwrthrychau hyn yn adlewyrchu hanes gwleidyddol, masnachol a chymdeithasol cenedlaethau o’r teulu hwn, ond hefyd teuluoedd ac unigolion eraill sy’n gysylltiedig \u00e2’r castell. Mae eu diddordebau artistig, cerddorol a llenyddol yn glir i’w gweld ynghyd \u00e2\u2019r modd y comisiynwyd yr enwau mwyaf yn y maes pensaern\u00efaeth ac addurno i ddylunio a diweddaru’r castell. Mae’r cytundeb pryniant hwn yn cadarnhau gwaddol y teulu Myddelton wrth i ni barhau i adrodd y straeon hyn. <\/em><\/p>\n

“Er bod llawer o’r eitemau o\u2019r casgliadau yr ydym wedi’u prynu eisoes yn cael eu harddangos yn y castell, mae\u2019r ffaith ein bod yn berchen arnynt yn awr yn golygu y gallwn ymchwilio’n llawn i’r gwrthrychau a’r archifau, a gwneud gwaith cadwraeth a dadansoddi technegol, a bydd hyn oll yn caniat\u00e1u <\/em>i ni gynnig dulliau newydd i bobl fwynhau\u2019r profiad ohonynt yn eu hamgylchedd hanesyddol<\/em>. Byddwn yn gallu dysgu mwy am eu cyd-destun, eu pwysigrwydd a’u gwerth yn hanes Cymru, yn genedlaethol ac yn rhyngwladol, a byddwn yn gallu rhannu’r straeon hyn ar-lein a gydag ymwelwyr sy’n dod i gael golwg ar y castell yn bersonol.”<\/em><\/p>\n

Dywedodd Mr Guy Myddelton: <\/strong>“Mae Castell y Waun wedi bod ym mherchenogaeth a than reolaeth yr Ymddiriedolaeth Genedlaethol ers 1981, ac nid yw bellach yn addas i fod yn breswylfan breifat i deulu. Rwy’n falch ein bod wedi gallu dod i gytundeb gyda’r Ymddiriedolaeth Genedlaethol sy’n sicrhau gwaddol y teulu Myddelton yn Y Waun a bod gweddill casgliad y Waun ar gael er mwyn i genedlaethau’r dyfodol gael gweld yr eitemau yn y cyd-destun mwyaf priodol.”<\/em><\/p>\n

Fel rhan o’r cytundeb prynu, mae’r teulu Myddelton yn symud allan o\u2019r ardaloedd preifat hynny sy’n weddill yn y castell, yn ogystal \u00e2’r Adain Ddwyreiniol sydd ond wedi bod ar gael yn ysbeidiol ar gyfer mynediad cyhoeddus. Bydd yr Ymddiriedolaeth yn ystyried y ffordd orau o ddefnyddio ac arddangos y gofodau hyn a bydd yn rhannu ei chynlluniau yn y misoedd nesaf.<\/p>\n

Mae prynu eitemau o werth uchel yn y casgliad wedi bod yn bosibl drwy gynllun Gwerthu Cytundeb Preifat sy’n caniat\u00e1u i berchnogion preifat werthu eitemau i sefydliadau cenedlaethol heb fynd drwy broses ocsiwn ac am bris sy\u2019n fanteisiol i\u2019r ddwy ochr.<\/p>\n
