Dw i\u2019n derbyn nad yw gwibio ar hyd yr A525 ar fws deulawr wir yn brofiad heddychlon, er bod sedd ar y llawr uchaf yn rhoi argraff o leiaf i chi o deithio drwy gefn gwlad gwyrdd digynnwrf. Ond mae yna safleoedd tawel braf a mannau cysegredig i\u2019w gweld ar y ffordd. A gyda\u2019r bysiau\u2019n rhedeg ddwywaith yr awr rhwng 6 y bore a hanner nos, mae hwn yn wasanaeth gwych i chi deithio fel y mynnwch chi.<\/p>\n

Dinbych<\/strong><\/p>\n

Fel y byddech chi\u2019n ei ddisgwyl o dref wledig, mae Dinbych yn hyfryd iawn, gyda gerddi deiliog, strydoedd chwaethus ac adfeilion hynafol. Sefydlwyd ei chyfoeth yn oes Elisabeth fel canolfan ddiwylliant y dadeni, a bu iddi ddatblygu wedi hynny yn dref farchnad a oedd yn enwog am wneud menig – cyfoeth a ymgododd o garpiau a gwrthdaro.<\/p>\n

Preswylfa Dafydd ap Gruffydd oedd y castell yn wreiddiol, ond fe\u2019i cipiwyd ar gyfer y Saeson gan Edward I ac ymosodwyd arno sawl gwaith wedyn gan y Cymry. Parhawyd i ymladd drosto yn ystod Rhyfel y Rhosynnau a\u2019r Rhyfel Cartref, pan gafodd ei feddiannu gan luoedd y Brenhinwyr rhwng 1642 a 1648. Wedi i\u2019r Brenhinwyr ildio yn dilyn gwarchae eithaf cwrtais, cafodd y castell ei ddinistrio\u2019n fwriadol (fel nifer fawr o gestyll eraill).<\/p>\n

Eglwys Dewi Sant (Eglwys Leicester)<\/strong><\/p>\n

Er na chafodd yr eglwys hon erioed ei chwblhau (neu oherwydd hynny efallai), mae\u2019n strwythur tangnefeddus bellach. Prosiect uchelgeisiol Robert Dudley (Iarll Caerl\u0177r) oedd hwn yn yr unfed ganrif ar bymtheg, ond pan fu farw, daeth yr arian i ben a rhoddwyd gorau i\u2019r gwaith adeiladu. Y bw\u00e2u o arddull y Dadeni yw\u2019r cwbl sydd ar \u00f4l o\u2019i freuddwyd Biwritanaidd i greu neuadd bregethu Brotestannaidd. Ond efallai wir fod yr eglwys yn fwy hyfryd byth o gael yr awyr yn do iddi.<\/p>\n

Muriau\u2019r Dref<\/strong><\/p>\n

Cedwir gi\u00e2t muriau\u2019r dref ym Mhorth Burgess dan glo, ond os gwyddoch chi sut i gael gafael ar allwedd, mae profiad arbennig yn eich disgwyl, ac mae\u2019n bosib iawn y cewch chi\u2019r lle i gyd i chi\u2019ch hun. Mae\u2019r llwybr cul ar hyd y muriau yn eich arwain uwchlaw gerddi\u2019r dref. Fe welwch chi winwydd yn ymestyn, gyda\u2019r ffrwythau o fewn eich cyrraedd, ac yna, wrth i chi adael gerddi coeth canol y dref, fe welwch chi blanhigion troed y golomen yn dringo\u2019r muriau ac afalau surion bach wedi gollwng oddi ar y coed gwyllt ar y tyrrau.<\/p>\n

Wrth i chi droi\u2019r gornel, mae\u2019r golygfeydd ar draws Dyffryn Clwyd mor syfrdanol o\u2019u cymharu \u00e2 dyfnderoedd duon dwys T\u0175r y Coblyn, nes bod y profiad yn teimlo fel breuddwyd.<\/p>\n

Felly sut mae cael gafael ar allwedd i\u2019r muriau? Wel, fel pe bawn i\u2019n rhan o gyrch hudolus, fe ddes i ar draws rhywun ag allwedd breifat ar \u00f4l digwydd taro sgwrs gyda dyn yn cario ysgol. Fel arall, ewch draw i\u2019r llyfrgell (sy\u2019n hafan ynddi ei hun) a gofyn am gael benthyg eu hallwedd nhw.<\/p>\n

Llanelwy<\/strong><\/p>\n

Mae\u2019r ffyrdd yn llawer prysurach nag yr oedden nhw pan f\u00fbm i yma\u2019n blentyn, ond nid yw\u2019r heddwch wedi diflannu. Er bod y ddinas gadeiriol fechan wedi\u2019i chorlannu gan yr A55 a\u2019r A525, gyda\u2019i strydoedd canoloesol, ei phensaern\u00efaeth eglwysig felys (mae eglwys blwyf Llanelwy hefyd yn fan heddychlon), ei siopau annibynnol a\u2019i llwybrau cerdded deiliog ar hyd glan Afon Elwy, mae Llanelwy yn parhau i fod yn gilfach werdd.<\/p>\n

Llanelwy Cathedral<\/strong><\/p>\n

The cathedral grants Llanelwy its peace. Famed for its diminutive size, it occupies a tranquil space in the world despite its share of turbulent history. In the 13th<\/sup> century it was attacked by Edward I\u2019s troops, by Owain Glynd\u0175r\u2019s in the 15th<\/sup> century, and in the 16th<\/sup> century by Oliver Cromwell\u2019s soldiers, who (it is said), let their horses drink from the font. Yet still it harbours a fizzing kind of silence. Soft lamps glow in the choir stalls, lozenges of stained-glass light bathe the walls, while in the grounds the trees seem to whisper.<\/p>\n

The cathedral also holds a place in my heart and in the hearts of anyone for whom the Welsh language is important because this is where William Morgan was bishop. It was William Morgan (with the help of Edmund Prys the poet), who translated the bible into Welsh \u2013 the Old Testament in 1567, a revision of William Salesbury\u2019s New Testament in 1588, and a Book of Common Prayer in 1599. Their work was fundamental in helping the Welsh language flourish. A sculpture honouring the translators, stands in front of the cathedral and somewhere in the tree-lined grounds, lost to time, is the grave of William Morgan.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/strong><\/p>\n

Yr Eglwys Farmor, Bodelwyddan<\/strong><\/p>\n

Mae Eglwys y Santes Margaret ym Modelwyddan, a adeiladwyd yn oes Fictoria, yn nodwedd amlwg yn y dirwedd, gyda\u2019i meindwr gwyn gloyw sy\u2019n trywanu\u2019r awyr yn amhosib ei fethu o\u2019r ffordd. Ond mae\u2019n cymryd dwy neu dair taith ar y bysiau i mi sylweddoli pam fod yn enw Bodelwyddan mor gyfarwydd. Bodelwyddan. Dyma ble mae\u2019r milwyr o Ganada wedi\u2019u claddu.<\/p>\n

Ym 1919, roedd y Rhyfel Byd Cyntaf ar ben ond roedd 17,000 o filwyr o Ganada yn dal i aros yng ngwersyll hyfforddi\u2019r fyddin ym Mae Cinmel i\u2019r llongau ddod i\u2019w cludo nhw gartref. Roedd eu hamodau byw yn ddeifiol o oer a chyfyng, roedd bwyd yn brin ac roedd y ffliw yn ymledu. Ond fe ganslwyd sawl llong ac aeth eraill, a oedd wedi\u2019u bwriadu ar eu cyfer, \u00e2 milwyr Americanaidd gartref yn eu lle. Pan aeth hi\u2019n gythrwfl, anafwyd 28 o filwyr a lladdwyd pump. Mae gan bedwar o\u2019r pump hynny fan gorffwys heddychlon o leiaf, yn Eglwys y Santes Margaret, ynghyd ag 85 o\u2019u cymrodyr, y bu farw nifer ohonyn nhw o\u2019r ffliw.<\/p>\n

Mae\u2019r eglwys hefyd yn nodedig am ei marmor. Defnyddiwyd pedwar math ar ddeg i\u2019w hadeiladu, gan gynnwys pileri wedi\u2019u gwneud o farmor coch Gwlad Belg, bonion marmor Purbeck yn cynnal pileri marmor Languedoc a chorff yr eglwys wedi\u2019i wneud o farmor Ynys M\u00f4n.<\/p>\n

Rhyl<\/strong><\/p>\n

Perhaps Rhyl is not described as being peaceful. But stroll out on the vast slabs of sand as the tide retreats and you\u2019ll find space and serenity, and solitude if you want it, save for the mewling gulls.<\/p>\n

And if, among the hubbub of shops and arcades, you just need a quiet place to sit for a while, you\u2019ll find the United Church opposite the police station is open from 9.00 \u2013 5.00 Mondays to Fridays (and 11.00 on Sundays for services). Visit on a Thursday and you\u2019ll find a caf\u00e9 run by volunteers, providing care, community and a safe peaceful space for all.<\/p>\n
