Meet your hosts:

Sonia Hawes

In March 2015  Sonia relocated to the lovely little town of Caerwys in Flintshire and was inspired by the designated “Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty” which is her back garden, very different from Northamptonshire where she was based for thirty years.

She works in a variety of media, mainly acrylic, pastel and watercolour enjoying the variety.

Having travelled in India, South America, Scandinavia, China, Europe, and to both Antarctica and the Arctic with her sketchbook and camera so is able to add a little extra to her workshops!!

“Initially training as a teacher in Cambridge and then moving into adult painting and drawing classes, and life classes, I really enjoy finding the inner creative artist in everyone learning new skills with great enjoyment.

I run Art holidays in both Britain and Europe which have proved really popular, I receive great feedback – people seem to have a great time and get a great feeling of well being and achievement.”

“I am really looking forward to working in my home territory, and working alongside Jennie her wonderfully warm welcome and her fabulous home”.

The Laundry Retreat –

Jennie Williams – Your host

Once The Laundry and Dairy to Llanrhaeadr Hall, the grade II listed property is built in true Georgian style. The house was built in the 1770s. The family have owned the house and surrounding land for over 140 years. The property was passed down to Tom (Jennies husband) in 1984 and sensitively restored in 2010. Tom, Jenny and family have lived here since 2011.

There are dogs (Digger and Amber) and cats, hens, plenty of wildlife.

Did we mention the garden?

Opening the door to the walled garden you discover a hidden world of fresh herbaceous planting and formal hedging, worn stones with stories to tell, and interesting structures. This secret and secluded space has walls-a-plenty, studded with the nails of a dozen past gardeners, making nectarines and peaches form fanned shapes to ripen fruit and please the eye.

Our modern day desire is to create avenues and leafy canopies, directing you through and offering shade within the oasis.

A mulberry remains as the sole survivor from history, losing a limb in its middle age, it leans… a lopsided link to the past.

Jennie will be delighted to welcome you into her home “We hope you can make your stay as much about rest and relaxation as re-balancing and connecting with nature, and the harmony and beauty there in”.
