Mold is a historic market town that has over a hundred independent shops and a good selection of big high street names. It’s a fair-trade town with many shops and cafes selling Fairtrade products. Enjoy the hustle and bustle at Mold Market – the biggest and best market town in North Wales. Street markets are held every Wednesday and Saturday with over 70 stalls selling fresh fruit and vegetables, cheese, meat, crockery, clothes and plants. There’s also an indoor market open Monday to Saturday and a farmers market every 1st and 3rd Saturday of the month. A great opportunity to taste local food and drink before you buy. Visit Mold museum and see a replica of the Bronze age Gold Cape which was found in Mold, the Gold Cape now sits within the British Museum and is one of the finest examples of prehistoric sheet-gold working and is quite unique in form and design. At the top of the high street overlooking the town sits the historic Bailey Hill, a once ancient burial mound and venue for a Norman castle erected around c1072, steeped in history the site is now a great place for a picnic or a stroll now a site of natural beauty. The Bailey Hill is currently undergoing a £1m redevelopment which will include avisitor information centre and performance area. Bailey Hill was originally occupied by Norman settlers who it is though took their name from ‘mont-haut’ meaning high hill which was then became corrupted through the years until it became Mold so Bailey Hill may have given the town its name. The castle was fought over many more times and given its violent past it’s ironic that it has been used for leisure purposes now for many years.

Mold is also home to award winning Theatr Clwyd, renowned for its great plays, music, cinema, and community activities. Here you can experience many performances that have featured on the West End of London and major cities, as well as performances that have a more Welsh cultural appeal.

Since 1976 Theatr Clwyd has been a theatrical powerhouse and much-loved home for the community. Now, led by the Executive team of Tamara Harvey and Liam Evans-Ford, it is going from strength to strength producing world-class theatre, from new plays to classic revivals.

There are three theatre spaces, a cinema, café, bar and art galleries and, alongside its own shows, it offers a rich and varied programme of visual arts, film, theatre, music, dance and comedy. Theatr Clwyd works extensively with the local community, schools and colleges and creates award-winning work for, with and by young people. In 2016/17 over 420,000 people saw a Theatr Clwyd production, in the building and across the UK.

The town itself plays host to a wide range of events which feature an annual Food and Drink Festival, the town Carnival which is the biggest in the County, music festivals such as Live on the Square, M-Fest and the North Wales Blues and Soul Festival are just a few of the towns annual events.
