Rhyl’s Summer Attractions
A brand new audio trail has just been launched which takes you on a guided walk of Rhyl and along the way you can hear from some of the character in Rhyl. It’s available via the izi.TRAVEL app and promoted on the town trail boards and therefore we thought we would highlight some of Rhyl’s attractions for the summer, something to peak all interests indoors or outdoors.
First of all , SC2 in Rhyl is an amazing water park which offers both indoor and outdoor water play for all ages and abilities. With breath-taking flume rides, beach style paddling, slides for all ages and themed cafes, new additions mean there really is something for everybody.
Youngsters can follow the dinosaur footprints through the jungle into a brand new Jurassic-themed soft play area with a host of bright and fun characters, slides, ropes and puzzles will give little ones the chance to explore, while parents can relax in our brand new extended café, which now serves Costa Coffee. The new Adventure Café will have a delicious new menu as well as Costa Coffee to give adrenaline seekers a welcome boost. The eatery has been extended to provide parents and families a sky-high view of the Ninja TAG arena and the new soft play adventure.
The Ninja TAG arena has also been extended too and this now includes the Cybertower, as well as some added levels, making it bigger and better than ever before, but for the same price which are now open.

Coupling our Ninja TAG arena and our new dinosaur themed soft play will give children and families of all ages, from 1 – 71 years old an adrenaline fuelled adventure, making Rhyl and SC2 a destination of choice for visitors and families.”

For those who may require accessibility SC2 has wheel chair access and an accessible reception area. The Changing Village has two disability changing rooms all with an individual shower and toilet facilities. The specialist changing areas have a changing bed, track Hoist and accessible sinks that can be lowered and raised electronically, there are also accessible lockers as well as two changing room assistants who will be able to help with any additional support. Inside the Waterpark, the water levels from 0 – 0.9m as a gradient. There are steps for entering or exiting the deeper part of the pool and there is a pool hoist available for use within the waterpark, to a member of the friendly team will be able to assist.
Now we’ve highlighted one of the main attractions we thought we would share some of the other popular Rhyl favourites.
An award winning 1.3 km closed circuit road cycling track and a national standard BMX race track featuring a Bensink start gate (exactly the same as the 2012 Olympic BMX track) and challenging jumps and berms. In addition to these two tracks a third brand new mountain bike track has recently been opened allowing people to test their skills.
Offers a place for sailing, canoeing, water skiing, wakeboarding, knee boarding and for those of you that are daring enough; barefooting and is the only salt water lake in North Wales. 12 hectares in size, it is a man-made reservoir next to the mouth of the River Clwyd. For those who don’t like to get wet, have a walk round the Lake taking in Environmental Trail, spot some of the wildlife, do some crabbing or have a ride on the Miniature Railway (see below.)
Begin your visit by enjoying the mile long Train Ride around Marine Lake. On all peak days the train ride is hauled by a vintage steam locomotive and uses coaches which are themselves almost one hundred years old. Check the timetable, which shows clearly when steam locomotives will be in use. They have facilities to carry passengers in wheelchairs on the trains.
Vue Cinema on West Parade has all the latest mainstream movies are shown at this state-of-the-art chain cinema with family deals.
Visit Bont Y Draig Harbour Bridge a couple of kilometres walk from the railway station you come to the marina, and Pont y Ddraig Harbour bridge (Dragon’s Bridge). It is a small pedestrian bridge which opens for boats entering and leaving the marina. It is unusual because it has a tall central mast, and a pulley system which draws the bridge platform on either side up to it when opening and provides the final link of the 15 miles cycling route across Conwy and Denbighshire.
Learn to kitesurf with Pro Kitesurfing which offers individual or 2-1 tuition in all aspects of kite-powered and paddle activities. From basic board control, power-kite flying through to beginner kiteboarding lessons and kite tricks. Kite-powered land and water sports are easy to learn, yet can provide challenges for even the most ambitious people. The amazing beachfront training centre is the perfect location to learn kitesurfing. With flat water lagoons making it easy to stand and progress safely making it perfect for water starts.
Hire a bike at the Bike Hub which is a local Social Enterprise Bike Shop Retailer. The Hub is located within Rhyl’s beautiful Harbour, right next to Pont Y Ddraig. Located next door to the Bike Shop is the Harbour Hub Café which is open 7 days a week serving a wide range of hot and cold snacks, fresh cakes , grilled sandwiches, rustic rolls and barista coffee. At The Hub they hire bicycles daily throughout the year. When you Hire, you can travel along NCN Route 5 for miles of traffic free family friendly cycling.
As you can see Rhyl has come a long way from its Victorian heyday with facilities to entice even the most modern of tourists, however some things will always be the same. The sea, the sand and a climate officially sunnier than the national average for a start so don’t forget about the miles of glorious beaches and remember to pack your bucket and spade!
