Canol Tref / Amgueddfa Gymunedol Treffynnon

Daw enw Treffynnon o brif nodwedd y dref sef Ffynnon fyd-enwog Gwenffrewi o’r 7fed Ganrif; un o Saith o Ryfeddodau Cymru.

Fe’i lleolwyd yng Ngogledd Ddwyrain Cymru mewn cefn gwlad hardd a’i golygfeydd dros aber yr afon Ddyfrdwy. Dydy canol y dref farchnad draddodiadol hon ddim wedi newid llawer dros y cannoedd o flynyddoedd diwethaf, fel y tystia’r adeiladau hardd o ddiwedd y cyfnod Sioraidd ac oes Fictoria.

Ar un adeg, Treffynnon oedd yn cyflenwi dŵr a phŵer llafur i ffatrïoedd a melinau niferus Dyffryn Maes Glas yn ystod y 18fed ganrif, a gellir gweld eu hadfeilion yn rhan o Barc Treftadaeth Dyffryn Maes Glas.  Heddiw, mae’r dref â’i hardal siopa ddi-geir, yn lle tawel sy’n bodloni gofynion hamdden a siopa ymwelwyr a phobl leol hefyd.
